Education

Dr. Frances Hessel graduated cum laude from Rice University, where she studied Cognitive Science, Psychology, and Neuroscience.  She then completed her M.D. at Baylor College of Medicine, where she was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society in recognition of her dedication to compassionate patient care. Dr. Hessel was chosen to serve as a Chief Resident based on her outstanding clinical work and leadership skills throughout her four years of adult psychiatry residency at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. She is currently pursuing post-residency subspecialty training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at New York-Presbyterian Hospital's combined Columbia and Cornell program.


AreaS of Expertise

Dr. Hessel has treated adults and children in a variety of inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings, and values a thoughtful, multimodal, and collaborative approach to care. She brings dedicated attention to biological, social, and psychological factors to meaningfully understand individuals, make pharmacological recommendations, and draws from psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, transference focused, and other types of psychotherapeutic frameworks. Dr. Hessel sees patients both virtually and in-person in our Upper East Side location.
